This
Victorian house was designed by Augustus Pugin and has been designated a
listed Grade II building being of special architectural interest. Boston
House is less than 5 minutes walk from the railway and coach station,
the local shops, cafés and restaurants. The local T.I.C. is less than
150yds away! Boston
House is situated on The Terrace which is believed to date from 1849,
and was probably one of the first houses to be built in Windermere
which, of course, didn’t exist as a village until the advent of the
railways in 1847. In fact,
The Terrace was built for railway executives, and was reputedly designed
by Augustus Pugin ,who was one of the foremost architects of the time
and was largely responsible for the reconstruction of the Houses of
Parliament after it was severely damaged by fire in 1834. One of the
fireplaces in the house is a copy of one of his in the Palace of
Westminster.
