Frampton
House is a fine Grade II* 18th Century home situated in a very beautiful
part of Dorset approximately five miles from the County Town of Dorchester
and ten miles from the World Heritage coastline. The
house itself has a fascinating history. Guests join a long and
distinguished list of personalities who have stayed here since the house
was built in 1704. It was here that Richard Brinsley Sheridan, grandson
of the famous playwright, entertained the artistic and literary figures
of the time, such as Lord Melbourne, Sir Edwin Landseer, Thomas Hardy
and William Makepeace Thackeray The
large drawing room where you can relax before or after dinner is
decorated with antique furniture, old family portraits and comfy sofas. With
plenty of books to read, and a roaring log fire it is easy to slip back
to a gentle and more elegant time. The
Orangery is the ideal place for a candlelit dinner and, at breakfast,
planning the day's activities. In
the summer dinner or drinks can be served on the terrace overlooking the
massive cedar trees planted by the famous landscape gardener,
'Capability' Brown.
