Plumber
was built by Charles Brune in the early 17th century and has remained a
family home for the Prideaux-Brunes.
In
1973 Richard, Alison and Brian turned their home into a restaurant with
bedrooms under the careful management of the family. Today Plumber is
one of the most renowned Dorset country house hotels.
In the main house there are six very comfortable bedrooms all with
ensuite bathrooms, facing south and west they are approached from a
charming gallery hung with family portraits. In 1982 a natural
stone barn lying within the grounds was converted and a courtyard
created adding a further six very large bedrooms all with windows seats
overlooking the stream and garden. In 1990 the courtyard was
completed giving four more spacious, individually furnished bedrooms.
The main bar and the dining rooms all have open fires in the winter and
the two family labradors provide a warm welcome for all
guests. Most of the rooms will accommodate small children and
there are a number of cots available for their use.
There are also a few bedrooms in the stable courtyard which welcome
guests' dogs.
